Shaken but not stirred - Christchurch fencing is still alive and kicking!

E-mail Print PDF

Diane Swain has just rung to say that there will be no fencing at the United fencing Club. (Avonside Girls High School) on Tuesday night. Avonside Drive was one of the worst hit areas in Christchurch

However there will be some training, weather permitting, at the Olga Jeykll Salle (my place) starting 6.30pm for those dedicated enough to turn up! This will include electric fencing!!!

The Sabre Sessions will take place on Wednesday (and the Sabre Club meeting later!) at the venue and the Sabre Camp will also be taking place on the weekend.

Those turning up for the Sabre Camp are:  Alex Chan, Mike Mercer, Sasha Green, Eoin Queen, Luke Robertson, Hannah Ramsay, Katherine Taylor, Katie Logan, Garth Shillito and Susan Fourie. Among the fencing fodder they will face will be two former national sabre champions, a top Pommie import and other sundry sabreurs all dedicated to helping our men and women sabreurs prepare for the Commonwealth Fencing Campionships in Melbourne.

Hurry, hurry there is still time to enter - see info [on the next page] or visit: http://www.fencingmaster.co.nz/

Commonwealth Foil Camps

E-mail Print PDF

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch City in the early hours of Saturday morning and 24 hours later after shocks continue to be felt.

The Foil Training Camp had to be canceled as a result of the city wide loss and damage to power, water, sewerage and phone systems. The damage to buildings, roads, bridges, railways and infrastructure caused major disruptions. Transport and infrastructure systems are recovering and the airport reopened mid afternoon, but some roads remain closed.

With no reported major injuries everyone is reported generally well.

Given the power and duration of the earthquake it is a relief that no deaths have been reported and the scale of damage is relatively light. A credit to our building codes.

Fencing and training continues and we live on.
