What we do - defined by the constitution
Fencing Central (FenCen) is the regional fencing body for the Fencing Central District (The District).
The District is defined by Fencing New Zealand (FeNZ) as the area of the North Island south of the 39th Parallel.
The management of FenCen is done by the Fencing Central Management Committee (The Committee) who are elected every year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The members of FenCen elected to The Committee hold their positions until the next AGM. For more information about The Committee, check the Fencing Central Constitution.
The purpose of FenCen is to conduct tournaments and other fencing events as well as represent the fencers in The District at a national level. Most years this consists of running numerous tournaments and events, attending FeNZ meetings and supporting clubs and athletes of The District. What we do - What we really do
Within FenCen there are six known clubs. Two of these clubs do not have much interaction with FenCen, Taupo and New Plymouth, and the other four make up the majority of FenCen, Hutt Valley Fencing Club (HVFC) in Petone, Upper Hutt College Fencing Club (UHCFC) in Upper Hutt, Victoria University of Wellington Swords Club (VUWSC) in Wellington and Wellington Swords (WS) also in Wellington.
Within HVFC are Tawa Fencing Club (based in Tawa) and Wellington Edge Sabre Club (based in Petone).
All of the clubs run independent trainings and are individual entities.
From the four clubs there were nine people elected at the last FenCen AGM to fill ten committee positions. This has happened this year as no one was nominated for the position of secretary. This was resolved with the committee apointing Keziah McNamara on the second of May. All of the appointments are for a year (from the end of the AGM the committee is elected in, until the end of the next AGM).
The Ten positions are made up of a President, a Secretary, a Treasurer and seven General Executive members (perhaps General Committee members would be more appropriate). The descriptions below are not complete and cover the main parts of each role. The roles are not limited to the descriptions below.
* The Committee may set by-laws, administer and maintain the funds of FenCen, set annual affiliation fees for FenCen, administer and maintain the property of FenCen, appoint selectors for FenCen, enforce the laws set out in the constitution of FenCen and any other actions allowed in the constitution of FenCen.
* The President is elected to chair all of the FenCen Committee meetings and any General Meetings that may arise (such as the AGM or an SGM). At the Committee Meetings the President Reports to the Committee, at each AGM the President reports to the members of FenCen. The President also sits on the FeNZ Management Committee where they hold five votes at FeNZ Committee Meetings.
* The Secretary is elected to be the first point of communication for the region. They are to collect/receive all communication to FenCen and distribute appropriately and send out notices/communications decided upon by the FenCen committee and dictated by the FenCen constitution. At Committee Meetings the Secretary takes the minutes and distributes them after the meeting to the Committee and Club Representatives. The Secretary usually manages the affiliations of FenCen.
* The Treasurer is elected to report on the finances of FenCen to the Committee at Committee Meetings and to the members of FenCen at the AGM.
* The General Executive are elected to represent the members of FenCen.
